Accessibility Statement

TESCO STORES SR, a.s. is committed to making its services accessible to all users in accordance with the provisions of the legislation applicable in the Slovak Republic, in particular Act No. 351/2022 Coll. on the accessibility of products and services for persons with disabilities. The aim of this Act, in line with the requirements of the European Union, is to ensure that products and services are usable by persons with disabilities or other disadvantages. 

This accessibility statement is issued by TESCO STORES SR, a.s., with its registered office at Cesta na Senec 2, 821 04 Bratislava, Company ID: 31321828, registered in the Commercial Register of the Bratislava III District Court, Section: Sa, Insert No.: 366/B, Tax ID: 2020301140, VAT ID: SK7020000317 (hereinafter referred to as "Tesco"), and applies to the Tesco Online Shopping service provided via the website www.tesco.sk in the Online Shopping section or via the dedicated Tesco Online Shopping SK application. 

1. Service Description 

Tesco provides the Online Shopping service through the website www.tesco.sk in the Online Shopping section or via the dedicated Tesco Online Shopping SK application, to the extent and in the manner available on these platforms and in accordance with the General Terms and Conditions of Tesco Online Shopping. Any additional information about this service and its features is available at www.tesco.sk in the Online Shopping section. 

2. Website Usage and Accessibility 

Tesco continuously works to make its services accessible to the widest possible range of customers and strives to modernize its services in line with its values. As part of accessibility, we support user-friendly and simple browsing. For the Tesco Online Shopping service, we have ensured the following: 

  • Use of high-contrast colors for better readability;
  • Information is not conveyed by color alone;
  • The website layout is consistent and clear;
  • Text is written in a simple and understandable manner;
  • The website is responsive – works in both portrait and landscape modes;
  • Navigation is possible in multiple ways so that customers can find content in the way that best suits their needs;
  • Elements such as menu, search, and footer are in the same place on every page;
  • A link to support and frequently asked questions under the name "Help" is always available at the top of the page;
  • Controls (buttons, links) are large and spaced enough to be easily activated even in case of fine motor difficulties;
  • Buttons activate only after releasing the click or touch, reducing the risk of accidental activation;
  • Identical functions have consistent labels throughout the site;
  • Form errors are described with text;
  • Orders can be modified or cancelled within a certain time (depending on the type of order);
  • It is not necessary to enter the same data multiple times;
  • Content is read by screen readers in a logical order;
  • Form fields are recognizable by screen readers and allow for autofill;
  • Keyboard focus is not blocked – users can move freely;
  • Focus shift does not trigger unexpected actions (e.g., opening a new window). 

 

We also provide some additional tips for easier use of our Tesco Online Shopping website: 

  • Zooming the page in the browser:
    • Accessibility options in browsers (available in browser settings): Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox.
    • Assistance with accessibility on third-party devices:
      • AbilityNet – tips for easier use of devices;
      • Microsoft Accessibility Help & Learning – provides information about tools, add-ons, and support Microsoft offers to users with disabilities;
      • Apple Accessibility Support – offers information about settings and built-in features that make their devices easier to use for people with disabilities;
      • Android Accessibility Help – provides information about settings and built-in features that improve usability for users with disabilities. 

3. Using the Tesco Online Shopping SK App 

We also prioritize making your shopping experience in the Tesco Online Shopping SK app simple and accessible. Currently, the app includes: 

Visual Display 

  • Text is used instead of images with embedded text, allowing customers to adjust how it is displayed via their device settings;
  • Content remains readable even after adjusting character and line spacing;
  • All content is accessible without needing to scroll in two directions simultaneously;
  • Color is not the only means of conveying information;
  • Controls and important graphic elements have sufficient color contrast for visibility by users with visual impairments;
  • The app does not contain flashing content. 

 

Navigation 

  • Each screen in the app has a clearly labeled title;
  • Links are understandable so customers know where they lead;
  • Navigation is possible in multiple ways, allowing customers to choose what suits them best;
  • Navigation elements are consistently placed throughout the app, making them easy to find. 

 

Interaction 

  • Controls such as buttons and links are large enough or have enough surrounding space to be easily activated—even by users with limited fine motor skills;
  • To reduce the risk of accidental activation, controls are triggered only after the finger is lifted from the touchscreen, not on touch;
  • Moving the mouse cursor or keyboard focus to an element does not cause unexpected changes, such as opening a new window. 

 

Form Filling 

  • An accessible identity verification method is available during login;
  • Customers do not need to re-enter the same data when placing an order, simplifying the process;
  • Grocery orders can be modified or canceled until a specified deadline, which varies by order type;
  • Field descriptions and instructions are provided where needed;
  • Identical functional elements are consistently labeled throughout the app;
  • Instructions describe controls by name, not just appearance or location;
  • Personal data fields support autofill;
  • Form errors are described in text, so customers know what went wrong and how to fix it, including suggestions for correction. 

 

Assistive Technology Support 

  • Assistive technologies such as screen readers can detect the app’s language, ensuring correct pronunciation;
  • App content is announced by screen readers in a meaningful order;
  • Visual labels of controls (e.g., buttons) can be used in voice commands to activate them;
  • The app can be operated using a keyboard. The currently focused element is clearly indicated, and focus does not get stuck, allowing smooth navigation for keyboard-only users. 

 

4. Compliance Status 

We are continuously working to expand accessibility. To support this, we implement the following measures: 

  • We use a combination of automated and manual checks during development;
  • The website and app are regularly reviewed by external experts according to WCAG 2.2 Level AA;
  • We involve people with disabilities in testing. 

 

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define three levels of compliance: A, AA, and AAA. 

  • The Tesco website and app are partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA; 

Accessibility was assessed through both external audits and internal evaluations.
